Oct. 30 Getting Ready to Leave San Jose

This week we had been hitting some advanced grammar, such as three approaches to the past tense, not to mention the regular and irregular verbs that fall under these tenses. Along with other complexities such as the male-female changes, it’s beginning to feel overwhelming. I’m hanging in ok, trying to stay positive. I’ve been getting exercise at the American Gym nearby at the Outlet Mall, and spending some time practicing guitar. Yesterday I got a call from Andres, and he had all positive news about musical connections that are happening, some possible because he has his drum set back. Even his sister, who has been a source of concern for him, is now scheduled to receiving a kidney transplant from a donor. I wonder silently if I shared positive energy over the past weekend was playing some role in his turn to good fortune.

I tell him about plans Friday night to go to Mac’s American Bar, which advertises “Costa Rica’s Only Real BBQ” and a band, “Blind Pigs Band,” playing classic rock and blues. It’s close to the MacDonald’s in Sabana Sur where we met for our Sunday excursion.

Giselle offered to drive me to the Economy rental car office downtown Saturday with my stuff, so I could drive back to Nosara.

I’m ready to return, and am having some bouts of boredom or dis-ease of some sorts, signs that I’m ready to move on. I spent some time before dinner doing some meditation, or my preferred version, toning, which involves sounding a continuous verbal note instead of a mantra. I find it has a more powerful effect than normal silent meditation, and also helps my singing voice, as a side-benefit.

My last night in San Jose should be fun, with Jose from the school and possibly others, as well as probably Andres gathering to check out bbq and music. I feel like it will be a good and interesting night, and a proper send-off. It’s also Halloween, growing in popularity here but also practiced as Devil’s Night by those looking for mischief.
